David Savard has put the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on the brink of elimination.

The Moncton Wildcats captain scored the overtime winner at 14:40 of the extra frame to lift his team to a 3-2 victory over the Screaming Eagles last night in Sydney, giving them a 3-0 stranglehold in the best-of-seven QMJHL first round.

Wildcats star Nicolas Deschamps scored twice in regulation before the Screaming Eagles battled back in the third with goals from Maxime Legault and Viktor Hertzberg.

Game 4 is tonight at 7 p.m. in Sydney.

In the other all-Maritime series, the Saint John Sea Dogs grabbed a 2-1 series lead over the host P.E.I. Rocket with a 3-0 win in Charlottetown.
