Screw-up list includes Enmax CEO in fifth spot

Enmax’s chief executive officer is under fire again after after being included on Forbes’ top 10 CEO screw-ups list.

Forbes cites Holden’s mass email to employees regarding his salary and treatment by the media as one of the reasons he made the list.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi said he cares less about what the readers of Forbes think and more about what Calgarians think.

“The citizens of Calgary have made it very clear that they want us to ask more questions,” he said yesterday. “This is an issue that we’re dealing with, that we will continue to deal with.”

Nenshi did not comment on the impact Holden’s list placement will have on the city’s reputation.

“Let us hope that no one affiliated with the city makes that list in the future,” he said.

Associate professor of business ethics at the Haskayne School of Business, Loren Falkenberg, said the list likely isn’t well researched but could still have an impact.

“It should be a very strong signal to any CEO that something you think isn’t a big deal can be made a big deal and go international within a day,” she said. “I think it reinforces the need to become more accountable and transparent right from the start.”

Calls made to Enmax were not returned.
