Scrutiny over weekend passes

The province’s Public Accounts committee will decide next week whether or not to hold a hearing on the Justice Department’s handling of weekend passes for inmates at the Central Nova Correctional Facility in Burnside. Justice Minister Ross Landry revealed recently some inmates, including sex offenders, were given leave to serve time at home on the weekends due to overcrowding.

Liberal MLA Leo Glavine of Kings West requested representatives from the justice department appear before the committee to answer questions on the matter.
