The search has been called off for a 28-year-old man who fell off the rocks of Peggy’s Cove.

Someone saw a man yelling for help in the water and called police at 6:20 p.m. Saturday. An investigating officer later slipped and fell into the water but was rescued by another officer and fire personnel.

The two RCMP officers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Search and Rescue, as well as the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, were at the scene. A Sea King Helicopter and two Coast Guard vessels searched the water over the weekend.

Maj. James Simiana with the Rescue Centre said the Sea King was called down yesterday morning because the air search was exhausted.

Two Coast Guard vessels were still searching during the day and a ground search at the shoreline took place, but both were called off late yesterday.

Halifax RCMP stopped its search for the missing man at 5 p.m.
