Debris was found on the Bay of Fundy as an extensive search began yesterday for an overdue scallop dragger from Nova Scotia with four people on board.

Maj. Paul Doucette of the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax said officials didn’t know if the debris spotted in the water was from the missing boat from Digby.

“We don’t want to speculate that it’s even from the same ship,” he said. “Just personal items from a ship.” The dragger left on a fishing trip last week and was supposed to return to port on the weekend. Doucette said a distress call from the boat wasn’t received.

He said the search would continue overnight.
