Search grows for boater feared dead

The search has intensified for a missing boater believed drowned, Mounties said yesterday.

Investigators scouring Mons Lake have enlisted the help of police dogs, an underwater recovery team from Edmonton and ground teams from outside detachments, in hopes of recovering the 58-year-old’s body.

Mounties were notified an aluminum fishing boat overturned in the body of water northeast of Smoky Lake around 8 a.m. Monday.

With the assistance of Fish and Wildlife and an RCMP helicopter, the body of 51-year-old Real William Guy Paquette, the boat, and two life jackets were recovered shortly after the search began.

Investigators have not released the identity of the second man, whose body has yet to be recovered. Both men were from Redwater.
