Search is on for next Huskies QB

The Saint Mary’s Huskies will take a long look in their own backyard to replace starting quarterback Micah Brown.

The Huskies are hoping to land Citadel Phoenix pivot Jesse Mills, who stands six-foot-four and is unbeaten as a high school starter. He is widely regarded as one of the nation’s top CIS prospects.

Mills has thrown an eye-popping 36 touchdowns and more than 2,600 yards in just nine starts.

“We’ve spent a lot of time on Jesse,” said Huskies head coach Steve Sumarah. “I think he’s a fantastic quarterback. He’s got incredible skills … He’s a big, strong kid and he throws the ball as well as anybody I’ve seen throw it in this area.”

With Nova Scotia’s high school football final set for Sunday at Huskies Stadium between Citadel and the Sir John A. Macdonald Flames, Mills is closing in on his third straight provincial crown. Sumarah said Mills worked out with the Huskies last summer and has had the opportunity to get to know many of the players. He would have an opportunity for immediate playing time at Saint Mary’s. “It’s a very good situation for him,” Sumarah said.
