Second body found on Victoria hiking trail

A second body in less than two days was discovered along Victoria’s popular Galloping Goose Trail yesterday morning.

Media reports said the body of a middle-aged man was found before 8 a.m. on a trail along the Colquitz River in Saanich, north of Victoria.

It is the second body discovered in less than 48 hours.

Just before 8 p.m. on Friday, the body of a young woman was found along the Galloping Goose Trail in Colwood, about 10 kilometres east of Victoria.

It is not known if the two deaths are connected.

The Galloping Goose, a popular hiking and biking trial, is built on a decommissioned railway line and runs 55 kilometres from Sooke to Sidney.

The section between Atkins Avenue and Wale Road in Colwood remained closed for the police investigation.

RCMP have ruled the woman’s death a homicide, but have not said how she died, nor have they publicly released her identity.

In a press release Saturday, RCMP Insp. Mark Fisher said the person, or persons, responsible for the woman’s death was still at large.
