Secret ballot kibosh beaten

Coun. Sue Uteck’s motion to stop secret ballots during in-camera meetings didn’t make it past council last night.

Her motion was defeated in a 10-13 decision.

But council did vote in favour of changing the rules to make sure a solicitor is present during these private meetings.

Council was split on the secret ballot issue.

Coun. Bob Harvey pointed out council has only employed a secret ballot vote once in the past 21 years.
