Section of South Street to be closed for construction

A section of South Street in Halifax will be closed to vehicle traffic for close to two weeks starting today because of the installation of a natural gas steel pipeline.

Heritage Gas, in conjunction with its contractor R.B. Sommerville, is installing the pipeline between Robie Street and the Victoria General power plant, which the pipeline is providing service for.

The installation is expected to run until June 1. South Street from Robie Street to Wellington Street will be closed to vehicle traffic during this time.

Emergency vehicles and local traffic to parking areas will be maintained, a release by the Halifax Regional Municipality said yesterday. Metro Transit buses will detour to University Avenue during the closure.
