Security guard union threatens to picket events

The union representing security guards at Heritage Park has threatened to form picket lines during upcoming events.

The president of Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 37, which represents 3,300 members in the Calgary area, isn’t pleased that the Heritage Park Society has plans to lock out employees who are seeking a collective agreement.

“I am very disappointed that the employer chose to go the route of mediation at this time as we felt there has been plenty of progress at the bargaining table,” said CUPE Local 37 president Kevin Galley.

If Heritage Park employees get locked out, Galley warned his union will call on its members to support picket lines. “There are many events coming up at the park and if the employer goes to lock out there will be hundreds of our members standing side by side at the park entrance,” Galley said.
