The Senate Intelligence Committee’s hearings on Russia’s involvement in the 2016 presidential election — and possible ties to President Donald Trump are underway.

The first began Thursday morning and is set to include interviews with five witnesses, including former NSA director Gen. Keith Alexander.

"This one is one of the biggest investigations the Hill has seen in my time here," Chairman Richard Burr, a Republican senator from North Carolina, said Wednesday during a press conference about the hearings.

Twenty individuals, including Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his son-in-law and one of his closestadvisers, Jared Kushner, have agreed to interviews. The remaining 15 people are slated to be scheduled for questioning within the next 10 days, Burr said.

"We anticipate inviting additional individuals to come and be interviewed, and ultimately some of those interviewed individuals may turn into private or public hearings by the committee, but yet to be determined," he added.
