Senators and other NHL alumni to play shinny on Rideau this weekend

Members of the Ottawa Senators alumni will play a three-on-three shinny hockey game against NHL alumni on the Rideau Canal Skateway this Saturday as part of Hockey Day in Canada activities being held across the country.

Sens alumni scheduled to participate include Laurie Boschman, Jim Kyte, Jason Smith, Jason York and Shaun Van Allen, while the NHL alumni squad will feature Ted Bulley of the Chicago Blackhawks, John Chabot of the Montreal Canadiens, Larry Skinner of the Colorado Rockies, Doug Smith of the Los Angeles Kings and Rick Smith of the Boston Bruins. The games begin at 12:30 p.m. at Patterson Creek inlet.

All Ottawa residents are invited to celebrate Hockey Day in Ottawa by coming out to one of the city’s 236 outdoor rinks for an afternoon of skating, hockey and physical activity.

Mayor Larry O’Brien, Coun. Georges Bédard and MPP Madeleine Meilleur will drop the ceremonial first puck in a game between members of the Ottawa police and local children at the Bingham Park Rink at 12:15 p.m.
