Sergio Mora stops Rito Ruvalcaba in sixth round of middleweight bout

CABAZON, Calif. – Sergio Mora stopped Rito Ruvalcaba in the sixth round of their scheduled 10-round middleweight fight Friday night at the Morongo Casino.

Mora was behind on two of three judges’ scorecards entering the sixth round. He hurt Ruvalcaba with a combination, drove him to the ropes and landed another left hand.

Referee Ray Corona attempted to stop the bout, but fell to the canvas in the process. By the time Corona regained his feet, the fighters were again exchanging punches. Corona immediately stopped the fight.

Mora, who gained notice for winning the Contender Championship two years ago, weighed just under 162 pounds. He is 20-0-1, with four wins by knockout.

Ruva weighed about 160 pounds and is 31-9 with 27 knockouts.
