Set list hopes for McCartney

With only four days remaining before Paul McCartney performs at the Halifax Common, people are gearing up for one of the biggest concerts this town has seen.

But with so many hits to choose from the ex-Beatle, one has to wonder what song people want to hear most.

Well, Metro Halifax put this exact question to several prominent locals:

Premier Darrell Dexter

Song: The Long and Winding Road.

Why: Following a lengthy scrum yesterday at Government House, the premier told reporters “after that, The Long and Winding Road,” is the song he wants to hear.

J.C Douglas, Q104 program director

Song: Band on the Run.

Why: “I don’t think he’s ever done that one, probably because it’s too taxing on the voice. Wouldn’t that be incredible to hear him wailing away on Oh Darling?”

Mayor Peter Kelly

Song(s): He couldn’t pick one, saying Band on the Run and Come Together are on top of his list.

Why: In regards to Come Together, he said, “As a municipality, we need to work together with council, the public (and) the communities. It’s all about being there for each other.”

Scott Ferguson, interim president and CEO of Trade Centre Ltd.

Song:
Eleanor Rigby.

Why: “I was in Grade 8 and my favourite teacher Robert MacDonald, who has since passed away, was a Gordon Lightfoot fan and look-a-like. He had us research and discuss the lyrics in class. He organized a group of students who would stay at lunch to sing and play guitars. It was a lot of fun. I hadn’t thought of that for years.”

Coun. Dawn Sloane, Halifax Downtown

Song:
Mull of Kintyre.

Why: “Mull of Kintyre reminds me of many local songs that describe the return to home of family, neighbours and friends (after) working away from their hometown, and that yearning to permanently return.”

Weather watch
• Environment Canada is tickling anticipation, calling for a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 21 C for Saturday’s concert.
