Seven applications filed for backyard chickens

Vancouver has received seven applications to keep backyard hens in the first month since the city altered its bylaws to allow coops.

The initiative, which hatched in May, got final bylaw approval on July 8. It allows people to keep up to four birds.

The city has also received 19 calls for more information about keeping hens.
