Calgary Police have laid more than 50 charges against two men they say are gang members,

On Wednesday at about 2:30 p.m., police say they were called to the Riverbend area of southeast Calgary. While there, officers saw five men acting suspiciously in Carburn Park.


They were stopped and two were arrested as known gang members with outstanding warrants. The other three were released.

Police say they found their silver-coloured GMC Safari van nearby and searched it.


Inside officers found; a Heckler and Koch assault rifle, two sawed-off shotguns, two handguns, four sets of body armour and clothes.

All the weapons were loaded, some with over-sized magazines.

Police are appealing to the public to help identify the movements of the van prior to these arrests.


A 24-year-old Calgary man has been charged with more than 25 firearms-related offences and a 22-year-old Calgary man also faces more than 25 firearms-related offences.
