Victim able to aid police despite extensive injuries
Detectives have released a sketch of a sexual assault suspect wanted for a brutal attack on a young woman in the Beltline area over the weekend.
Acting Staff Sgt. Curtis Olson of the sex crimes unit said yesterday though the victim was initially unable to speak with police because she was hospitalized, she has since been able to complete a sketch.
“The police continue to investigate the aggravated sexual assault and have made it a high priority. We have heightened patrols in and around the area it occurred in,” Olson said.
The woman was followed into a parking lot off 10 Ave. S.W. between 4 St. and 11 St. at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday when she was violently attacked and sexually assaulted.
Olson said police are extremely concerned with the high degree of violence in the case and say the woman was treated for multiple and extensive injuries.
The suspect is described as between 5-ft.-6 and 5-ft.-8, about 25 years old with a medium skin tone, possibly of East Indian descent. He is about 170 lbs., with short, dark brown, wavy hair and a goatee.
He was wearing a three-quarter-length brown coat and blue jeans at the time of the attack.
Police are investigating a number of tips, and ask anyone with any information about the incident or identity of the suspect to call them at 266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
