An off-duty Vancouver police officer is being credited for spotting a known sex offender allegedly watching children at a community centre — a violation of his parole — and detaining the man until help arrived.

The suspect, who has a record of sex crimes against children, was allegedly watching toddlers at Mount Pleasant Community Centre on Saturday, even though he is prohibited from being within 100 metres of the facility.

Donald William Snow, 55, appeared in court yesterday.
