Sexual assault on teen prompts police to set up tip line

Ottawa police have set up a tip line as they continue to probe the sexual assault of a teenager in Trend-Arlington Park on Tuesday.

A large volume of calls have been coming in to police since the incident hit the news, necessitating the hotline, Const. Al Boucher said yesterday. “The case is receiving the same priority as any other case, but because of the media coverage, we’re having more people call in,” he said.

Police are also continuing to canvass residents in the area of the park, urging parents to warn their children and investigating any potential link to two other suspicious incidents in the area, including one in which a 13-year-old girl was grabbed on the buttocks.

On Tuesday, a teenager was walking through Trend-Arlington Park when she was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted.

The suspect is described as a white male, 20 to 30 years old with a beard. He is between 5-foot-7 and 6-feet tall and was wearing blue jeans, a white hat and sunglasses at the time of the incident. Anyone with information can call the tip line at 613-236-1222, ext. 5760.
