Sexy dress sends Voultsos home

Montreal designer Margarita Voultsos was the second person sent home from Project Runway Canada last night with a dress that was too sexual and not sophisticated enough.

Her stretchy black dress with a high slit over one thigh failed to impress the judges and prompted host Iman to suggest the “ho trend” in fashion is over.

Last night’s episode upped the ante as well-loved Canadian actress Elisha Cuthbert stepped in as guest judge.

Designers had to create an evening dress for Cuthbert that would be worthy of any red carpet.

Hamilton designer Jason Meyers, 31, did a turnabout with his stylish and regal black dress, winning the challenge after having been in the bottom two last week.

For street and clubwear designer Voultsos, 25, the challenge of designing a dress for Cuthbert was unlike anything she had ever attempted in her career.

“I’ve never designed anything for a celebrity before — I do streetwear. For me to do a glamorous evening gown is really pushing the limits,” Voultsos said.

Despite getting her sent home, Voultsos feels doing the dress for Cuthbert has helped her grow as a designer and she has no regrets.
