I love curry, and Shaan Curry House is a little-known restaurant hiding in a strip mall on Merivale. Although you can dine in at one of the few tables, if it’s warm outside, you can take your lunch to go and walk around the block to a little park behind a church.

Every day this restaurant offers a different special of the day, and the Chicken Curry Meal ($10.50) was the special on the day I was there and even included a can of pop. The generously portioned curry was faintly spicy with chunks of dark chicken hidden in the thick sauce. Every bite of curry was cradled in a spoon of perfectly cooked jasmine-scented Basmati rice.

The salad was drenched in a slightly, strong house dressing but a torn piece of warm naan and the hot sun felt like a kiss of India in the middle of Ottawa.
