LONDON - An English animal shelter has been inundated with offers of help after it requested a home for a pair of Great Danes - one of which is blind, and totally dependent on the other.

Shelter manager Louise Campbell says 6-year-old Lily, and Maddison, 7, are inseparable and should be kept together if possible. Lily has had her eyes removed because of a rare medical condition.

The two were placed in the Shrewsbury Dogs Trust care in July but no home has yet been found. Campbell says some prospective owners are uncomfortable with Lily's appearance.

Campbell said Monday publicity about the dogs' plight has prompted more than 200 responses in recent days with many people expressing an interest in taking the dogs in.
