It’s not the funding for new streetcars Toronto’s looking for, but the city is getting almost $1 billion in federal and provincial money to build a new light rail transit line.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Premier Dalton McGuinty visited a TTC yard Friday to announce the approval of the Sheppard East LRT line.
Ontario will provide two-thirds of the estimated $950-million cost of the project, and the federal government will cover the remaining one-third.
