Man killed by police officer on Monday night
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) will review a Vancouver Police Department investigation into a fatal police shooting, the department announced yesterday.
“We have worked with IHIT in the past and feel that taking this additional step will promote transparency and maintain public trust,” said Const. Howard Chow, a spokesman for the department.
A 39-year-old Vancouver man was shot and killed in the middle of Granville Street between 15th and 16th avenues on Monday night after he assaulted two police officers with a chain and padlock.
The Vancouver police major crime homicide squad are the lead investigators in the case.
The VPD Professional Standards (internal affairs), the B.C. Coroners Service, and the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner will also conduct investigations into the shooting.
