All 10 victims who were injured in a gang shooting early Sunday morning were gang affiliates attending an invite-only birthday party, police said yesterday.
Deputy Chief Const. Warren Lemcke wouldn’t say what gangs were involved, but did say the violence appears to be linked to the death of Gurmit Singh Dhak, who was shot at Metrotown in October.
There are no suspects in custody.
“We’re going to step up our bar watch program and our restaurant watch program,” said Lemcke. “We are not going to tolerate things like this.”
Mayor Gregor Robertson, who lives a block away from the crime, said he had a “sinking feeling” in his stomach when he heard the shots.
“Your first thought is that it’s firecrackers,” he said yesterday. “It’s a tough thing to explain to (your) kids. When it happens in your neighbourhood it’s a real shock.”
