Sign-up opens for ACAD’s high school program

Registration is now open for the Alberta College of Art and Design’s pre-college program, which allows high school students to take college courses.

ACAD is one of the only schools in Canada to offer the program to students aged 16 to 18. The program runs July 6 to 31.

“If you’re interested in going into college — any college, it doesn’t matter — it’ll help you,” said Marcel Dusablon-Gougeon, who participated in the program in 2006. “They really tell you what the school is looking for in a portfolio, what you should focus on, and what you should stay away from.”

Bonnie Murdoch, director of extended studies, describes the program as 20 intense days of full-time studies. “They learn what it’s like to actually perform at a college level. So when they enter ACAD, they have already completed a first-year studies course,” she said.
