Signs leave constituents seeing double

Confusing? Yes. Misleading? No.

Ward 3 constituents have found two aldermanic election candidates vying for re-election, which has led to some confusion in the area.

Michelle Liu said she thought it was “odd” that both current Ald. Jim Stevenson and former alderman Helene Larocque are seeking “re-election” through their signs.

“I had to do a double-take and think about it for a second. I’m not sure if there are rules, but it definitely seems like there should be in this case,” she said.

But Stevenson shrugs off the signs as perhaps an attempt for Larocque to “save some money.”

“It may be a little confusing and we have gotten some calls to our office about it but I don’t think it’s a deliberate attempt to confuse people on her part,” Stevenson said.

Larocque said she choose to go with the “re-elect” signs to let people know she was at one point the area alderman, and also to be environmentally conscious in re-using the signs. “We’re not trying to confuse people. The term re-elect does not only apply to incumbents,” she added.
