A 19-year-old man is dead following a single-vehicle crash yesterday morning on Highway 102 near Stewiacke.

The victim, whose name hasn’t been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Al Affleck of Colchester RCMP said a preliminary investigation indicated the victim possibly fell asleep as he was heading towards Halifax.

“There’s nothing that tells us anything else right now because he basically drove directly off the road and into the median and hit the culvert where the turnarounds are on the highway,” Affleck said.

The victim was the only occupant in the small two-door car. The crash took place around 6 a.m. with traffic reduced to one lane for several hours.

Alcohol or drugs aren’t believed to be factors in the crash, police say, and it was raining at the time.
