Sister pleads on brother’s behalf

The sister of a man found murdered in Whalley stood before a dozen TV cameras yesterday and begged for anyone with information about the attack to call police.

Millie McKinnon clutched a photo of Paul Phelan and apologized for her shaking hands before speaking of the toll her brother’s death has had on her family.

“There aren’t words that can express our shock at (Paul’s) death,” she said while two-dozen relatives stood to the side, holding flowers and wiping away tears.

“How can a good, hard-working man suffer such a death?”

Despite being found in what police called a “challenged” part of Whalley, Cpl. Dale Carr said Phelan wasn’t involved in drugs and didn’t frequent the neighbourhood.

He wouldn’t say how Phelan was killed but described the attack as “brutal.”

“We’re hoping there’s someone out there … who saw something,” he said.
