It will likely be another three weeks before the decision on the site of a new $31-million provincial jail is made.

Justice Minister Ross Landry said his department has narrowed the site options to three locations —- one in Pictou County, one in the Antigonish area and the other in the Truro area — out of the initial eight options the province was considering. “We’re now looking at one site to see if it meets all our final needs,” Landry said. “If the first site doesn’t, we’ll move on to looking at the second site.”

He anticipates an announcement could be made within the next two to three weeks.

The new facility is expected to cost about $31 million to construct.
