Six days left to grab vaccinations at H1N1 clinics

If you haven’t got your H1N1 shot, and still want to get it at one of the city’s mass vaccination clinics, you’ve got about six days left before they shut down.

Alberta Health Services announced that come Dec. 23, the last of the mass vacc clinics will cease operations — leaving the H1N1 immunization to doctors’ offices and some pharmacies.

Deputy medical officer of health Dr. Judy MacDonald said with the holidays near, many people may be considering the vaccine, in order to avoid any unnecessary “gifts” over the holidays.

“With children out of school and families taking time off, now is an excellent opportunity to get yourself and your children immunized against influenza,” MacDonald said.

MacDonald did say a third wave of H1N1 is expected in the new year, and Albertans should still look at vaccination as a responsible level of prevention.

In response to the H1N1-related death of a Calgary-area teen, MacDonald did say it’s possible there could be a rise in people headed to local clinics.
