Six-month-old baby sole survivor of deadly collision

Negotiating highways proved tragic across the province over the weekend with a number of collisions ending in fatalities.

A six-month-old baby was the only one to survive a head-on crash south of Calgary Saturday afternoon, after all four women in the two-vehicle collision were pronounced dead on scene.

Three women were heading north on Highway 2 when their vehicle lost control, crossed the median and smashed into a southbound car carrying a woman and the baby.

Three of the victims have been identified as Joilinn Edgar, 19, Cayley Maureen Chapman, 18, and Emma Ransom, 19. The name of the woman in the car with the baby has not been released.
Police said though the child was flown to hospital by air ambulance, it did not sustain any major injuries.

Later that evening, an 18-year-old woman was killed crossing Highway 43, approximately 15 kilometres west of Valleyview. The woman has not been publicly identified.
