Skeena’s scenic spectacle

Incredible, breathtaking, majestic. These are the words used by passengers to describe the Skeena — VIA Rail’s unique rail adventure across the Rockies and the coastal range in north-central B.C.

“It’s easily the best-kept scenic secret in train travel,” said Ali Macaraeg, Manager, Market Development (West) for VIA Rail Canada.

The two-day, 1,160-kilometre journey winds past jagged peaks and glacial streams to ocean vistas as it runs between Jasper, Alta., on the east side of the Rockies, and Prince Rupert, on the Pacific coast, close to Alaska. A night in Prince George, in the hotel of your choice, is part of the itinerary.

“There are more mountains and wildlife to see on this route than any other route in Canada,” said Macaraeg.

Economy class is available year-round, and Totem Deluxe (first) class is available from May 14 to Sept. 30, 2008.
