Ski hills open for season

The wait is over for skiers who flocked to local mountains as ski hills opened for the season this weekend.

Sam Patten of Gibsons, who was at Grouse Mountain yesterday, said the conditions were good.
“It’s pretty icy, but there’s some powder. It’s really good for a first weekend.”

Peter Foter of Australia said he has been waiting all year for the snow to arrive.

“The winter is going to be awesome,” Foter said. “I want to see the view of the city when the sky clears up. It’s like worship to see that view.”

Chris Ryan spent the day snowshoeing at Grouse.

“I’ve been waiting for the snow, I bought my pass in July.”

Another Australian, Jennifer Hatfield, spent the day snowshoeing with friend Kristine Lat of Vancouver on the one-kilometre Grouse-loop track.

“It’s absolutely stunning, I’ve never seen anything like it” said Hatfield, a first-time snowshoer. “I’m excited for my first winter in the country.”
