Wayne Smith’s hopes of a $50,000 Triple Crown on the Carquest Pro Stock Tour were dashed at the Atlantic Cat 250 at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday night.

Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, N.B., drove his Chevrolet Impala SS to victory at the event just outside Halifax, edging out second-place Dave O’Blenis of Boundary Creek, N.B., and third-place John Flemming of Halifax.

Timberlea’s Smith, who won the first leg of the Triple Crown at the IWK 250 last month, did crack the top five, finishing fourth. Kent Vincent of Crapaud, P.E.I., was fifth.

Only show points were awarded for Saturday’s race. Enfield’s Shawn Turple was atop the points standings — three points ahead of Flemming — heading into the weekend.

The Carquest tour resumes Saturday with the Lucas Oil 100. That event will also be held at Scotia Speedworld.
