“The Mega Drop, drops people from 130 feet in the air — it’s a tower of power. ”

The final tests, touches and sparkles were being put on everything from the Midway to the Grandstand Show yesterday at the Stampede grounds in preparation for tonight’s Sneak-A-Peek.

Rides went through final safety checks and the Young Canadians fine-tuned their production of The Spirit of 1912.

This year’s midway has two impressive new rides that will propel Stampede-goers high into the sky.

Amber Swedgan, spokeswoman for North American Midway Entertainment, says those looking for a topsy-turvy thrill should check out the new Mega Drop as well as the Vertical Swing Tower.

“The Mega Drop, drops people from 130 feet in the air — it’s a tower of power,” said Swedgan. “It’s the only one of its kind in North America.”

Swedgan said the Vertical Swing Tower is less scary but still equally thrilling.

“The swing style ride takes people 110 feet in the air. It’s a combination of traditional swings and a drop tour that will give people a panoramic view of the grounds,” she said.

Sneak-A-Peek runs from 4 p.m. to midnight today, and gate admission is only $3 with all net proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation's Prairies/NWT Chapter.
