Although many Calgarians are basking in the unseasonably warm weather, skiers and snowboarders are itching to get on the hill.
After missing half the season last year due to a back injury, 15-year snowboarding veteran Cody Stuart is looking forward to snow.
“The weather is nice, and that’s good, but the longer the weather is nice the longer you know there’s going to be no snow in the hills,” said Stuart.
After buying new bindings for his snowboard in the fall, Stuart is looking forward to trying them out. “It’s time to snow,” he said.
Brendon Arnold of WinSport Canada said it’s still too early to tell when the hill will open.
“It’s all weather dependent,” he said. “If we’re looking at 16-degree-plus days, we have no chance of making snow right now,” he said, adding COP needs at least five or six days of -10 C weather to make snow.
Arnold said COP has had numerous calls regarding passes and opening day for the hill.
“A lot of people are very eager to get out onto the hill this season,” he said.
