Society wishing for cat homes

Beauty isn’t the only beast that needs a home.

According to the Edmonton Humane Society, the local shelter is overrun with cats so they’ve come up with the third major cat adoption incentive program in as many months.

Wish Upon a Whisker Wednesdays will feature a certain type of feline for one Wednesday a month until the end of the year.

For that day, you will be able to take a cat or kitten home without having to pay the adoption fee.

“For us to do something like this, it’s very serious,” said the society’s spokes-person, Shawna Randolph. “We’re a not-for-profit society, adoption fees go towards spaying and neutering, microchipping, and everything else that comes with adopting an animal, so we’re taking a real hit.”

The promotion starts this Wednesday and the first featured felines are Black Beauties.

Randolph said the large amount of cats and kittens at the society’s shelter is caused by a severe overpopulation of felines in the community.
