Some of the high (low?) points from Jackass

For 10 years, no one has mastered comedic masochism quite as well as the lovable morons of Jackass. With the upcoming Jackass 3D promising to send self-inflicted pain and poo jokes into a new dimension, we thought we’d take a look back at some of the best (or worst) moments in the history of the franchise.

The Self-Defense Test
The stunt that started it all. Then-freelance writer Johnny Knoxville decided to test mace, a taser, and a stun gun on himself to determine the effectiveness of the self-defense devices. Unsurprisingly the final verdict was that they all work, but the tape was shockingly hilarious, caught Larry Flynt’s attention, and spawned a franchise.

The Cup Test
Being John Malkovich director Spike Jonze is an unexpected Jackass collaborator and one of his greatest contributions was the idea for this TV sketch in which Johnny Knoxville donned a sports cup and tested its durability against the likes of paintballs and a sledgehammer. It hurt and we all laughed.

The Fart Mask
What happens when you trap a fart and the charmingly insane Steve-O inside a diver’s helmet? Comedy genius. What exactly happens during this minute-long clip defies explanation and needs to be seen to be believed. Simultaneously one of the funniest and most disgusting things you’ll ever see. A statement that sums up the appeal of Jackass in a nutshell.
