Vancouverites aren’t so convinced that Premier Gordon Campbell’s 15 per cent income tax cut, which he announced Wednesday night, will be a good thing.
“I don’t think the cut (Campbell) is giving is going to … offset the effect the HST has had,” said Roger, a Vancouver doctor who preferred not to give his surname.
Campbell’s approach to the announcement was all wrong, said Jason Green of Delta.
“He was still saying ‘This is how it should be,’ rather than, ‘You know, I made some mistakes.’”
NDP MLA Shane Simpson called the cut a desperate attempt to buy people with their own money.
“This is a another one of those off-the-cuff decisions by the premier,” said Simpson, MLA for Vancouver-Hastings. “Half the tax cut will go to the top 20 per cent earners.”
