Edmonton’s newest and perhaps most eclectic music festival kicks off in Old Strathcona on Friday.

After having some bad luck on a cross-Canada tour, musician and SOSFest producer Kaley Bird said the music community really came through for her.

“I thought of this as an opportunity to give back to my community,” Bird said. “I wanted to take a break from all the me-time with touring and always concentrating on my own career, and really give back to my community and the music industry here in Edmonton.”

SOSFest will feature bands like Ten Second Epic, Souljah Fyah, and Captain Tractor. Proceeds from the festival will support the Alberta Music Education Foundation and War Child Canada.

The party starts Friday at 7 p.m. and the sweet, summer sounds continue all weekend long, wrapping up with a Sunday street party on Whyte Avenue.
