Southeast shooting leaves two hospitalized

Two men are recovering in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after an early morning shooting in the city’s southeast yesterday.

Duty Insp. James Hardy said when police responded to reports of gunshots in the alley behind a strip mall in the 5200 block of 17 Ave. SE around 5:40 a.m. There were a number of people in the area, but no victims. Hardy confirmed two men in their 20’s showed up at Foothills hospital with non-life threatening injuries later in the day.

“We have a number of people being interviewed in connection, but right now we don’t know why are what caused this incident,” Hardy said.

Police believe a social gathering was taking place in the strip mall and an altercation led to a person with a firearm preventing a vehicle from leaving the area, resulting in both gunshot wounds and a collision.

Police continue to investigate.
