Several media outlets reported that authorities were interviewing at least one person of interest Monday night after the explosions at the Boston Marathon, but officials would not confirm those reports. [videoembed id=134930]
In an interview with CNN, Rep. Michael McCaul said that at least one person was in custody, but did not elaborate. He also said police were searching for a yellow Penske truck, but that truck had already been located and searched hours prior to his interview.
CNN later reported that authorities were looking for a foreign national with “darker skin” and a backpack. [embedgallery id=134983]
The New York Post cited law enforcement sources in its report that a 20-year-old Saudi national was under guard at an undisclosed Boston hospital and Fox News reported that the person had suffered severe burns.
The man was caught less than two hours after the bombing, the Post reported, but authorities would not confirm that.
The Los Angeles Times also cited a federal law enforcement official in its report of authorities questioning a Saudi national hospitalized with injuries. The person was not identified as a suspect.
In response to several local reports of a potential suspect at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said, “There is no suspect being treated at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.”
A very large police presence was seen outside Massachusetts General Hospital just before 8 p.m. Monday, including an armed SWAT vehicle and several heavily armed guards. However, those authorities dispersed a short time later.
Metro could not confirm whether any persons of interest were being treated at Mass. General Monday night.
