Spokane beats Kootenay 5-4 in overtime

SPOKANE, Wash. – Brenden Kichton scored the winning goal in overtime as the Spokane Chiefs defeated the visiting Kootenay Ice 5-4 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Marek Kalus had a goal and an assist for the Chiefs (27-14-7), who won for the fifth time in six games, while Todd Fiddler, Corbin Baldwin and Darren Kramer added single goals.

Joe Antilla had two goals for the Ice (27-15-8), who have now lost four straight, while Elgin Pearce and Dylen McKinlay had a goal apiece.

Mac Engel started the game in net for Spokane but was pulled after allowing three goals on six shots.

Eric Williams earned the win after making 18 saves in relief.

Nathan Lieuwen turned aside 41 shots in defeat for Kootenay.

The Chiefs were 1 for 5 on the power play as the Ice failed to score on three opportunities with the man advantage.
