Spring forward to fall at Vancouver Fashion Week

We’re only a week into spring, but fall and winter fashion is already making its way down runways for Vancouver Fashion Week.

The 15th annual event kicked off last night at Garfinkels bar in Whistler and featured women’s skiwear from Calgary-based Frost Sportiva.

Cheryl Janisch said she had the 2010 Games were on her mind when she designed the collection, which is made in Vancouver with 100 per cent Canadian goose down.

“With international travellers coming, it makes sense they’d see a made-in-Canada line,” Janisch said. “The fabrics are all technical and reflect the colours for fall — black, tan, pink and Aruba blue.”

Janisch said ski gear for women tends to look like the ski gear for men, but her collection is form-fitting, which reduces bulk, and includes matching accessories and boot bags.

Vancouver Fashion Week returns to Vancouver tonight, with runway shows being held at the Storyeum building in Gastown. The show wraps up on March 29.
