Best buy: a candy pink jersey cocktail dress ($30) — very Marilyn Monroe, and can be layered with a cardigan or short-sleeved blazer.

Fashion Business Workshop

If you’re a local designer poised to launch your own fashion business consider participating in this weekend workshop. This two-day session covers the secrets of fabric sourcing, finding good contractors and manufacturers, pricing and marketing, how to hire a sales agent, the benefits of trade shows, morphing sketches into samples as well as all kinds of number-crunching tips for the less creative yet key business side of fashion.

Taught by Liza Deyrmenjian, a fashion manufacturing consultant who's worked with Oscar de la Renta and recently mentored Jay McCarroll (the first winner of Project Runway), this intensive fashion education seminar could arm emerging BC fashion entrepreneurs with a strategic edge.
