St. Albert man up on child porn charges

A St. Albert man is facing charges after border patrol officers allegedly discovered his luggage returning from Thailand contained child pornography.

Kerry Glen Avey, 45, is charged with possession and importation of child pornography.

He was referred for secondary examination by Canada Border Services staff after arriving at the Edmonton International Airport from Thailand via San Francisco last Wednesday around 11 p.m.

“Something twigged them,” said Sgt. Pat Waldorf, head of the Northern Alberta Integrated Child Exploitation Unit.

“I guess a single male travelling from Thailand, would be one thing.”

“When our officers examined his goods, they found what they believed was child pornography and arrested him,” said Border Services spokeswoman Lisa White.

Border patrol officers discovered about 50 compact discs full of digital pornography, each disc labelled with graphic images.

Avey has been released from police custody and is set to appear in court on Oct. 7.
