Stabbed teen in critical condition

A 14-year-old girl was rushed to hospital early last night after being stabbed in the chest in a public park.

Police were called to 1441 Bedford Hwy. around 7:30 p.m. and found the teen suffering from one stab wound to the left side of her chest.

Paul Maynard, spokesman for Emergency Health Services, said the girl, who was in Bedford’s Fish Hatchery Park near Union Street, was in “critical” condition and transported by ambulance to the IWK Health Centre.

Staff Sgt. Dave Reynolds of the Halifax Regional Police said police were still on scene after 9 p.m. questioning witnesses.

Reynolds said there were no suspects at the time, but the victim was able to speak to investigators.
“She’s co-operating as much as possible,” he said.

Reynolds said he didn’t know if the girl was with friends or on her own when the stabbing occurred, but police would continue to investigate and gather evidence at the scene.
