Despite six horse deaths, poor weather and a serious ride mishap that injured several teens, it’s still the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, says the Calgary Stampede.
Calgary Stampede board chair Dr. David Chalack said although there were many challenges during this year’s festival, there were just as many successes.
“The most important thing is the experience we created for our guests and 94 per cent of people polled said we met or exceeded their very high expectations,” Chalack said.
Chalack pointed out there were visitors from every province and every state, as well as 60 other countries making this year more popular for out of town guests.
“And we had more families coming out this year, which is what we said from the start. We wanted to make it an even better family experience.”
Stampede officials will be working with North American Midway Entertainment to review the ride accident, but Chalack expects it could take weeks or months.
